In response to overwhelming popular demand, iconic Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Steely Dan have announced that their U.S. “Rent Party ‘09 Tour” has been extended with a second leg, including a concert at Star Plaza in Merrillville for one night only on November 7th. The group’s masterminds Walter Becker and Donald Fagen will perform a special setlist show that includes a complete live rendition of landmark album Aja, plus select additional favorites.
Rave reviews have followed the band’s recent blockbuster performances across the country. Here’s what the critics had to say:
“[Fagen] was deep in the music… unprepossessing solos, swinging, nasty and percussive, a cross between Count Basie and Ray Charles.” New York Times, July 29
“This was different. This was live. This was vibrant. This was a cascade of color carried along by Fagen (keyboards, vocals), Becker (electric guitar), eight brilliant supporting musicians and three superb backing vocalists.” Chicago Sun-Times, September 1
“Everyone gathered Friday evening was a believer and they were treated to something close to rapture at the opening night of Steely Dan’s four-night run...” Los Angeles Times, August 23
“Aja is a jazz-rock masterpiece... Donald Fagen, Walter Becker, and a pristine 11-piece band played it to perfection at the Wang last night.” Boston Globe, July 23
Steely Dan have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and helped define the soundtrack of the '70s with hits including “F.M.,” “Bodhisattva,” “Reelin’ in the Years,” “Rikki Don't Lose That Number,” “Deacon Blues,” “Peg,” “Babylon Sisters,” and “Hey Nineteen,” culled from their seven platinum albums issued between 1972 and 1980. They reunited in the early '90s and have toured throughout the decade and beyond, releasing multi-Grammy winner Two Against Nature in 2000 and its acclaimed follow-up Everything Must Go in 2003. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
